Area Forecast Discussion

.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Dry weather will prevail through next week with above average
temperatures.
2. Nighttime and morning fog, locally dense in the early
morning, remains possible every day through next week for the
San Joaquin Valley.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
As a trough sits over much of the eastern United States, most of
the western United States is under a ridge blocking pattern,
which is keeping current weather conditions largely the same
over the rest of the week and into the weekend. Near the end of
the week, the ridge deepens, bringing in some cooler northern
air and lowering temperatures. However, dry conditions will
continue to prevail through at least the end of the week as no
precipitation is forecast.
The main weather element impacting the area over the rest of the
week will be dense fog. Model guidance has probabilities of
30-60 percent of a quarter mile visibility or lower throughout much
of the San Joaquin Valley. Similar probabilities will continue
throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend, especially
for the central valley area. Observations right now show very
low visibilities from Fresno down through Hanford and Lemoore.
As such, a Dense Fog Advisory for the San Joaquin Valley has
been issued and is valid through 11am this morning. Here are
probabilities of certain cities within the valley seeing
visibilities below a quarter mile this morning:
Merced: 40%
Madera: 50%
Fresno: 50%
Visalia: 60%
Hanford: 50%
Bakersfield: 20%
Temperatures through the end of the week will remain above
average for this time of year. Through Thursday, these
temperatures will trend roughly five degrees above normal for
most areas. Beginning on Friday, a slight cooldown brings
temperatures back down to only a few degrees above normal.
&&
.AVIATION...
18z update: Widespread IFR conditions persist in the central valley
due to fog and mist, with patches of MVFR to VFR conditons slowly
developing. Reduced visibilities will continue through 21z,
especially for the central areas including Hanford, Lemoore, and
Visalia. Widespread MVFR to VFR conditions will continue until 06z
Wendesday before fog and mist returns. IFR conditions will be
present until 18z.
High Sierra/Foothills/Kern County Desert: VFR high cloudiness
for the next 24 hours.
